A new John Cockerill heat recovery boiler for the 600 MW Keppel Sakra cogeneration plant (Singapore)
March 20th 2023
A new John Cockerill heat recovery boiler designed by our Belgian engineers for the 600 MW Keppel Sakra cogeneration plant on the island of Jurong, Singapore: this is the new order awarded to John Cockerill by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI).
This site is already well known by our our After-Sales service colleagues who modified boiler exchangers there in 2022.
This new state-of-the-art very large HRSG will be associated with one of the largest turbines designed by Mitsubishi, a 701J GT.
To withstand ultra-high steam temperatures of 600°C and above, our exchangers will be made of stainless steel. Our engineers have also adapted and improve our design in order to meet an ever more demanding market in terms of operating conditions. This demonstrates our ability to adapt the technicality of our HRSGs to the needs of our customers and of our time.
This cogeneration plant was designed to be able to operate on a natural gas-hydrogen mix. Our boiler will produce steam for industrial processes in the energy and chemistry. Its low emission rate and great operating flexibility makes this plant the most efficient power station in operation in Singapore. It will be able to save up to 220,000 tons of CO2 compared to Singapore’s average operational efficiency for equivalent power. These CO2 savings represent the removal of approximately 47,000 cars from the roads per year.
This is the first John Cockerill HRSG associated with a Mitsubishi turbine of this class in 50 Hertz. It will greatly contribute to decarbonize the Singaporean industry and strengthens our position in Southeast Asia, a key market for John Cockerill, but also in the global market.
