John Cockerill is to design and supply a horizontal Benson-type HRSG for a new combined cycle power station in Poland
January 30th 2024
John Cockerill was awarded by Siemens Energy a new contract for the design and supply of a horizontal Benson-type HRSG (3 pressure & reheat) to be installed behind a Siemens Energy SGT5-4000F turbine in the future new combined cycle power station of Adamow (Poland).
Owned by ZE PAK SA (Zespol Elektrowni Patnow Adamow Konin), this new 600 MW power plant is in open consortium with Siemens Energy and MYTILINEOS and will replace a five-unit coal-fired power plant built in Turek (200 kilometers west of Warsaw) between 1964 and 1966 next to the Adamow brown coal mine and now decommissioned.
This future ultra-modern power station will accelerate Poland’s energy transition, as authorities intend to progressively move away from coal. Poland still relies on coal for around 70% of its electricity production, by far the highest proportion in the European Union and the government has recently adopted ambitious targets for moving towards lower-emission sources.
John Cockerill is proud to be a solid partner of energy transition in Poland as the power plant will contribute to reduce by 1.2 million tons of CO2 per year in the country and will provide power to over 900,000 households.
