First Firing of the Termocandelaria plant’s boilers in Colombia

Eager to see Termocandelaria release its first steam haze in Colombia? The first firing of the plant’s boilers took place on June 14th.
In addition to having passed another important milestone in the contract, our customers were also delighted with the excellent work carried out by the John Cockerill Energy Solutions teams during this firing operation.
This project, entrusted to our teams in 2020 by Tecnicas Reunidas, includes the design and supply of two horizontal recovery boilers and the supervision of the commissioning. As a reminder, in 2018, a serious incident at the Hidroituango hydroelectric dam (2,400 MW under construction) caused a delay in bringing significant new power capacity onto the grid. This situation prompted the Colombian Ministry of Energy to organize a new electricity auction as a matter of urgency. John Cockerill participates in the installation of this new capacity.
The next important step of the project will be the performance tests which should take place during the month of September. John Cockerill is proud to facilitate access to energy and to contribute to more sustainable industrial production.
