Santo Domingo Metro: maintenance operations for an ever more sustainable urban mobility
June 03rd 2021
The development of the underground continues in the Dominican Republic where John Cockerill is contributing to greener mobility. Since 2007, the teams of our entity CIM have been working on the installation and maintenance of the Santo Domingo underground system.
Recently, Franck Pasqualini, President of John Cockerill Services, met the teams and visited the metro facilities. Before him, Thomas Fournier (CEO of CIM) had also visited the site in order to strengthen the relationship with the customer and partners and thus prepare the continuity of the maintenance activity for the next three years.
Like the extension of the Santo Domingo underground system, carried out by CIM and inaugurated in 2018, John Cockerill is delighted with the collaboration with the Dominican state, which has placed its trust in us for the past 13 years in order to free the traffic in the capital.
The Santo Domingo underground is the first in the Caribbean. With a constantly increasing demand, this metro transports more than 100 million passengers per year with an average traffic of 320,000 passengers per day. This transport solution is a world example in terms of safety and comfort.
