Signing ceremony at Enlit Asia 2023 : a cooling tower for the Lumut Balai geothermal power plant (Indonesia)

A signing ceremony on day 2 of Enlit Asia 2023 : SEPCOIII Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation has awarded John Cockerill Hamon Indonesia the contract for the supply of a cooling tower for the geothermal power plant of Lumut Balai unit 2 in South Sumatra (Indonesia).

Lumut Balai unit 2 belongs to PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy, a state-owned Indonesian company. The project is the second unit on the geothermal plant, the cooling tower for unit 1 having also been supplied by Hamon Group. The first unit cooling tower is running properly since plant start up in 2018.

This order consolidates John Cockerill Energy’s position as market leader in geothermal cooling market in the region. Geothermal application is unique, as the water quality of the cooling circuit depends on the produced steam which is link directly to several site conditions and the cooling tower needs to evacuate non condensable gases, among others H2S.
