John Cockerill Secures Major Contract for Approx. 600,000 TPA Cold Rolling Complex from JSW Steel Coated Products Ltd.

JSW Steel Coated Products Ltd. (JSWSCPL) has awarded John Cockerill India Limited a landmark contract for the engineering, design, manufacture, and supply of a state-of-the-art high-capacity Cold Rolling Complex at Rajpura, India, with a production capacity of approximately 600,000 TPA.
The scope of the project includes engineering, manufacturing, supply, supervision of erection and commissioning, as well as operator training. The complex is targeted for completion in 2028.
The new Cold Rolling Complex will comprise the following key facilities:
Designed to operate at 200 mpm, the line will feature six tanks, a turret-type edge trimmer, advanced process control systems, and a cascading hydrochloric acid (HCl) regeneration system. The solution is engineered to minimize acid consumption, reduce environmental impact, and ensure superior product quality. The project will benefit from John Cockerill’s global expertise across more than 50 pickling lines serving a wide range of steel grades and applications worldwide.
The 6-high Twin Stand mill will be capable of rolling material up to 800 MPa tensile strength, with a rolling force of 1,800 tons and speeds up to 1,500 mpm. Equipped with 6 MW installed power per stand and an advanced Mill Management System, the mill is designed to deliver excellent strip quality, tight thickness tolerances, superior surface finish, optimized yield, and enhanced operational efficiency. This will be the third Twin Stand mill supplied within the JSW Group. The solution draws upon John Cockerill’s experience of more than 100 cold rolling mills operating globally.
Featuring non-oxidation vertical furnace technology, an inline skin pass mill, tension leveller, coater, and IGBT-based ceramic working and pre-melt pots, the line will offer coating ranges from 80–550 g/m² for GI and 70–200 g/m² per side for GL products. The line is designed to process up to 123 t/hr for GI and 105 t/hr for GL applications. The technology builds on John Cockerill’s proven expertise across more than 150 continuous galvanizing lines worldwide.
Together, these facilities represent a significant milestone in JSWSCPL’s downstream expansion strategy, supporting higher productivity, operational efficiency, and sustainable manufacturing.
With this investment, JSWSCPL will further strengthen its leadership in coated steel products for the automotive, appliance, and construction sectors, while John Cockerill India reinforces its position as a trusted technology partner for the global steel industry.
