CMI Industry replaces two sinter hoods for ArcelorMittal Asturias (Spain).

September 09th 2013

CMI Industry is currently performing the replacement of the two sinter hoods of the ArcelorMittal Asturias steelmaking site in Gijon (Spain). In this revamping project, CMI Industry provides the design and development engineering, procurement, erection and commissioning of the two new sinter hoods and associated equipment (gas station, gas piping network for the hood, air combustion blowers, cooling air fans and piping network, complete electrical works and control system: electrical cabinets, MCC & PLC).

Teams from CMI Thermline Europe (the CMI Industry Business Unit in charge of the project) proceeded with the ignition of the first hood on the 4th of August, nine months after the contract was signed. The installation was completed as planned in a very short time (14 days). Installation of the second hood is expected by the end of September.

For the record, a sinter ignition hood is used to prepare the sinter (by igniting a mixture of blended ore, flux, and coke) for the blast furnace.
