April 01st 2025

John Cockerill and Viettel Group signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for exploring long-term cooperation to develop a Vietnam-based manufacturing and supply chain for pressurised alkaline water electrolysers for green hydrogen production and to explore cooperation on other energy transition solutions.

This strategic collaboration aims to investigate the feasibility of developing a manufacturing facility and supply chain in Vietnam for all or part of the alkaline water electrolyser equipment used to produce green hydrogen in order to supply the domestic market, but also, through an export capability, international markets, in particular to Asia-Pacific.

In addition, the parties will explore other cooperation opportunities for other energy transition solutions in areas such as cooling towers, molten salts and nuclear energy, both for the domestic market and for export potential.

Viettel, as a recognised international industrial and technological corporation, is pursuing diverse developments related to renewable energy and carbon neutrality through its Manufacturing and Hi-Tech divisions and is keen to explore ways to support Vietnam energy transition. Through its green hydrogen expertise and its wide range of innovative energy efficiency and decarbonised energy solutions, John Cockerill aims to contribute to the country’s ambitious energy transition objectives.

The MoU was signed by Francois Michel, CEO of John Cockerill, and Nguyen Manh Hai, Director of High Technology Industry Management Division of the Viettel Group, during Belgium’s State Visit to Viet Nam, and illustrates the partnership in the spirit of sustainability between the two countries.
