John Cockerill was awarded a new contract for the design and supply of 2 HRSGs for the Bazyan II Add-On Combined Cycle in Iraq

June 27th 2025
We are proud to announce a new contract awarded by ENKA to John Cockerill Energy for the design and supply of 2 Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG) for the Add-On Combined Cycle of Bazyan II in Iraqi Kurdistan. These new steam generators will be installed behind two existing GE 9FA 04 gas turbines.
The Turkish EPC Contractor ENKA renewed its confidence in John Cockerill, who has already designed and supplied 52 HRSGs to this estimated customer. Our long-standing and trusted relationship with ENKA, along with the price, quality and reliability of the John Cockerill boilers, and the financing proposals offered by the Group were key factors in securing this order.
This Bazyan II power plant, located in the province of Sulaymaniyah, is undergoing a significant transformation from an open cycle to a 750 MW combined cycle configuration. The upgraded plant will potentially supply near 1 million households with electricity annually. Iraq’s total electricity demand exceeds 25 GW, with Kurdistan’s demand estimated at 3–4 GW during peak summer months. The Bazyan upgrade will therefore significantly bolster grid stability and regional supply, especially during peak demand periods.
We thank our committed teams for their fantastic job and their continued efforts, and our client for its renewed confidence in our design and project management!
