Successful commissioning of the e-NesaCore™, a first fully electrically heated Multiple Hearth Furnace
October 27th 2025
John Cockerill is proud to announce the successful commissioning of its e-NesaCore™, a fully electrically heated Multiple Hearth Furnace. This great achievement is the concrete result of two years of collaborative R&D with our partner CRM Group, in line with the EU Recovery Plan, which identifies the electrification of industrial furnaces as a strategic priority.
An electrically heated MHF offers numerous advantages: it allows the absence of thermo-mechanical interactions between the product and inner gases, significantly reduces flue gas treatment, emits far less CO2, and requires no fossil fuels, while fully preserving final product quality, as demonstrated on organic and mineral feedstocks.
Since the 1980’s, our experts have successfully performed hundreds of test sessions at our pilot station located in Liège (Belgium), using both our Batch Furnace and our Continuous 6-hearth MHF. These tests have encompassed a wide range of feedstocks: minerals for calcination, carbon for activation, spent activated carbon for regeneration, special waste for pyrolysis, metal ore concentrates for roasting, vegetal biomass for torrefaction, …
Today, John Cockerill offers to test your thermal processes in its advanced furnaces, either in conventional combustion mode or in fully electric heating mode.
The plan is obviously to deploy our e-NesaCore™ at our clients premises, either on existing MHF or on green fields projects, with the objective to decarbonize and/or take benefits of the electricity market volatility.
