Colossal HRSG bundles hit the road for a 6,000 km journey!

July 28th 2025
Even in 2025, some transports challenge the very definition of what’s possible. Nearly 50 huge HRSG steel bundles, each weighing between 101 and 222 tons, are traveling over 6,000 kilometers, sometimes on stone roads, across China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
This exceptional convoy is currently making its way along the ancient Silk Road, under often scorching temperatures. In close collaboration with our client, we carefully reviewed and adapted the packaging and protective measures for our equipment to ensure it remains perfectly secure and pristine—even after a demanding journey. This tailored solution guarantees optimal protection throughout this extraordinary road odyssey.
Once delivered in Uzbekistan, these giants will be assembled to form 2 brand-new John Cockerill Heat Recovery Steam Generators designed by John Cockerill Energy for the new combined cycle power plant of Surkhandarya (1600 MW).
In 2024, John Cockerill secured the contract to design and supply these two HRSGs, which will be installed behind Siemens 9000HL gas turbines. The Surkhandarya Power Station will be the first in Uzbekistan to implement Siemens’ latest generation of H-class gas turbines. It will produce 12 billion kWh annually and provide electricity to 500,000 households in the region.
Congrats to our teams for their fantastic job! Our talents and our technologies have the power to change the world!
