In a context of growth of renewable energies, by nature intermittent, John Cockerill aims at developing high-performance solutions for large-scale hybrid storage, so as to contribute to the available power security, stability and quality in Belgium.
The METIS project* is an innovative prototype for Belgium and Europe, including a hybrid storage system (Li-ion batteries and flow-battery), driven by a high-performance Energy Management System (EMS), and capable of offering multiple flexibility services, which are increasingly necessary for grid operators.
