John Cockerill gives power to an isolated community in Chad
June 21st 2024
In Ati (Chad), John Cockerill has just commissioned a NAS® battery system for ZIZ Energie, a company from Chad involved in decentralized energy infrastructure projects for secondary towns. Another milestone showcasing our expertise in off-grid, remote energy systems, with renewable production and long duration energy storage!
- First in Africa: NGK Insulators’ sodium-sulfur battery, a technology previously unseen in Africa, now powers the remote community of the town of Ati. With a maximum output of 250 kilowatts and a capacity of 1,450 kilowatt-hours over 6 hours of storage, it is the perfect fit for long duration energy storage.
- Solar-Powered Microgrid: our project integrates seamlessly with a solar field, harnessing the sun’s energy during the day, and providing clean power during cloudy days and at night.
- Socio economic impact: this project is lighting up lives and creating sustainable change for the local population, facilitating health care, education, and fueling economic activities.
As EPC contractor, John Cockerill developed the project and ensured careful execution and integration. This project highlights our commitment to facilitate access to green energy and our contribution to Sustainable Development Goals.
